CTO

  • Location: Birmingham
  • Salary: GBP 180000 - GBP 200000 per annum
  • Start Date: 01/08/2025
  • Contract Type: Permanent
We’re hiring a full-time Chief Technology Officer to lead the digital and engineering strategy for a SaaS business in growth mode. You’ll oversee the entire technology function across engineering, product, and data, bringing structure, pace, and commercial focus to a business at a pivotal stage.
This is a transformation brief, not a steady-state role. You’ll be responsible for driving platform performance, scaling engineering maturity, and embedding accountability throughout the tech organisation. Reporting directly to the founder, you will work in lockstep with the wider leadership team to turn vision into execution.

The platform is used in highly regulated sectors and underpins critical workflows at scale. As CTO, your role is to unify the company's technical direction, increase delivery velocity, and unlock commercial value through smarter use of technology, data and AI.

Key focus areas:

Engineering leadership, including AWS architecture, DevOps, CI/CD and best-in-class delivery practices
Defining and delivering a future-proof data and AI strategy to drive commercial outcomes
Exploring opportunities to monetise large volumes of platform and customer data
Embedding intelligent automation and decisioning capabilities across core workflows
Aligning technical priorities with commercial goals, ROI, and customer value
Building a high-performance engineering and product culture that values accountability, curiosity and innovation
Working closely with a non-technical senior leadership team to shape and execute strategic roadmaps

Who we’re looking for:

A proven CTO with experience scaling technology functions and delivering innovation across SaaS or regulated platforms
A strategic thinker with strong operational execution who can lead from the front
Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and modern software development practices
Comfortable leading change, managing technical debt, and challenging legacy thinking
A visionary with a commercial mindset who sees the opportunity in large-scale data and the potential of AI to drive value

What’s on offer:

Full strategic ownership of the technology function with autonomy to make change happen
Direct influence across a platform that supports business-critical operations for well-known enterprise clients
The opportunity to shape and commercialise a future data and AI strategy from the ground up
Equity participation potential, alongside a competitive base salary
Hybrid or remote working with flexibility and trust baked in

Salary: £180 000 - £200 000 depending on experience
