You walk into your favourite restaurant, the anticipation of this Friday night meal has kept you going all week. But wait, something's different. The interior looks the same but there are new faces standing in the places of those that you became so used to seeing. Ah, new management.
They've kept the menu and the chef the same, thank Goodness. You're in for a treat. And as expected, the meal delivers. The food is as delicious as ever.
The service leaves a lot to be desired. The waiter has attitude, doesn't listen to your order properly, served you the wrong food and took their time to do so.
You leave with a happy stomach but an overall feeling of disappointment. It's then that you realise, service is everything. It separates the wheat from the chaff and is perhaps, even more important that the product.
It reminds you of your professional life. As an IT Service Delivery Manager you know that the quality of service that your customers receive is one of the most important parts of the business. Because of this, you spend your days monitoring and improving your service offering. You work closely with your technical team members to empower them to do the same, and when they don't, you're there to help coach them into a better offering next time around.
You're comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. Whether it is regarding a technical or non technical issue; you are able to communicate confidently. You can spot process improvements in your team and help drive them forward. You love working with your team to offer praise and positive feedback but you're also comfortable having the difficult conversations too. You might not be hands on with the technical stuff anymore but you have a good enough understanding to be involved in the escalation process and provide realistic timescales for resolutions.

ROLE: Service Delivery Manager
SALARY: £40,000 - £60,000 DOE
LOCATION: Leighton Buzzard, half office based and half from home for the near future, with the view of full time in the office post Covid-19
